Critique

GERMAN SPITZ (MITTEL)

I was very pleased with the overall quality of dogs entered under me today, especially with my Class winners. I was sad to have to feel it necessary to withhold some places in my Limit Bitch class but felt these bitches lacked merit, especially when the two I placed were of such obvious quality. I was surprised to find so many dogs with the same misplaced tooth in the lower jaw; while fortunately I found only two with very bad bites. Quite a few were long in loin, a fault found in Kleins also, so losing the correct almost square outline that the Standard calls for. Also seen were a lot of flat open feet which look ugly on a breed calling for tight catlike feet, and the green carpet of Crufts is unforgiving in highlighting this fault.

VD
(2, 1) 1 Day’s Loki’s Gold Ingot. Good coat and condition for a dog in veteran, lovely mouth and ear placement, square in outline.

Sp PD
(7) 1 Hill’s Sobriety Hot Chocolate, BP. Dog in lovely harsh coat, looked great today but must not grow on, lovely head pattern with well rounded muzzle and correct stop, good eye placement and pigment, good bone, well put together, a well laid tail completed the picture, good mover. 2 Beard’s Wyndlee Desperado. Young dog full of life, well placed ears, nice eye, did not move quite as well as the winner but in lovely coat and condition. 3 Hewett’s Spellcast Secrets And Lies. Not in full coat today but well presented, good head but eye round under the lights, good mouth, good body, did not move so well today as I have seen him before, being a little wide coming and going.

Sp JD
(4) 1 Hill’s Sobriety Hot Chocolate. Winner in last class. 2 Beard’s Wyndlee Buffalo Soldier. Very striking parti colour in good coat and condition, very little between first and second in this class, I just preferred the front movement of the winner, very balanced dog with well laid shoulders and good spring of rib and nice and short in the loin. 3 Hewett’s Spellcast Secrets And Lies. Third in last class.

PGD
(10, 1) 1 Corkin’s Nixtev Kinetic Under Fouranfass. Lovely balanced black dog in good coat and condition, well presented, beautiful dark eye and well placed ears, good overall picture, sound mover. 2 Blight’s Rosechow Ehrik. Nicely presented dog in good coat, good front, movement not quite as positive as the winner, nice eye, good mouth. 3 Hunter’s Rossfort Walk The Line. Cream dog, another enjoying his day out, not quite in full coat, good pigment, well laid shoulders with nice hind angulation.

LD
(9) 1 King &Calvert’s Red Alert. Mature chocolate in good hard condition, not a glamour dog but a solidly put together well constructed dog without any exaggeration, handled very sympathetically at all times, would prefer smaller ears, best mover in this class looking as though he could go all day. 2 Rogerson’s Nosregor Kateandy Moogi Dhoo. When this dog entered the ring I was sure this would be my CC winner of the day. A stunning chocolate German Spitz whose appearance was everything I was looking for in this breed. Short in back, balanced and beautifully presented with lovely moulded head, unfortunately when I handled him I found that under the coat, although beautifully constructed, he lacked all substance and so had to pay on the day. 3 Mulholland &Atkman’s Zephon Rubyjet Obsidian. Black, balanced in outline, lovely expression, beautiful dark well placed eye, a nice dog to handle.

OD
(11, 1) 1 Hewett’s Ch Spellcast Talk To Me JW, DCC. Lovely black dog, balanced in outline. I have seen him in better coat, but on the day had enough to get the ticket, nice neat ears well set, good front with neat catlike feet, good body with moderate tuck up of loin, well set tail, easy mover. 2 Chambers’ Ch Druitz Corncracker For Teamspitz JW ShCM. Res DCC. Cream, another quality dog in lovely correct harsh coat and good condition, very well presented, close up to winner, just preferred the winnder ear carriage on the day. 3 Beard’s Ch/Ir Ch Windlee Chandera Spectre. Not quite in full coat today, lovely masculine head and expression with a very good mouth, level topline with good angulation fore and aft, tail could be set tighter.

Good Citizen D
(1) 1 King’s Grizwold Iolo Goch. Stood alone. One of the best movers here today. Well presented, good front with neat feet.

VB
(6) 1 Hewett’s Runfold Eternal At Spellcast. A very nice veteran bitch enjoying her day out, still in lovely condition, lovely head and expression with well placed ears, level topline, very sound throughout, moved very well. 2 Pooley’s Wyndlee Fallen Angel From Azkaban. Another quality bitch, good head pattern, good bone and angulation, carrying more weight than the winner but well presented. 3 Hindley &Fitton’s Ch Shelayne’s Little Showgirl. Smaller very feminine bitch, good bone for size, in good coat, as with second a little less weight would improve.

Sp PB
(5, 1) 1 Purves’ Rossfort Griselda. Very feminine young cream bitch, beautiful head and expression, ears could be neater, steeper in upper arm than I prefer and a little long in back, hind movement not true today. 2 Hill’s Wyndlee Sad Cafe Of Sobriety. Black and white particolour, lovely square outline, when standing tended to turn front feet in slightly, needs to broaden and deepen in body but maturity should help with this. 3 Butler’s Wyndlee New Kid In Town. Not a glamour girl but very sound and steady, good head and eye, good front angulation but a little long in loin.

Sp JB
(2) 1 Hill’s Wyndlee Sad Cafe Of Sobriety. Second in last class. 2 Mulholland’s Zephon Crystal Warrior. Compact small orange bitch moving well round the ring, not in full coat, good bone for size, tail carried well over the back.

PGB
(10, 1) 1 Orchard’s Spilmah Affair To Say. Res BCC. Beautifully presented bitch sympathetically shown by her young handler, in full coat and lovely condition, very nice to handle, very sound throughout, good front and hind angulation, well laid tail, moved extremely well round the ring and when coming and going, balanced bitch. 2 Rolleston’s Beaulion Amethyst At Kelham. Another quality bitch, nice in outline with well set tail, nice head and eye, good front but could perhaps do with a little less weight, however, a sound bitch. 3 Moir &Moir’s Nixtev Liberty At Jansanleis. Nice bitch, not in full coat, beautiful pigmentation, good front with neat feet, level topline.

LB
(7, 2) 1 Garbutt’s Nixtev Lexis. Nice coat with beautiful pigmentation, would prefer more angulation but stood four square, well set tail. 2 Heslop’s Runfold Joo Joo Bee By Flamuna. Pretty black, slightly longer on the leg than the winner, very balanced, good head and expression and tail set. Remaining awards withheld.

OB
(7, 1) 1 Orchard’s Ch Pennypot Enchantress With Spilmah, BCC, BOB. Probably the best class of the day where certainly the top three placings will change on other occasions, but this was really Enchantress’ day. She was on top form, in excellent coat and condition never letting up. A beautifully presented black whose coat gleamed under the lights, lovely head and expression with good mouth and neat ears, balanced in outline with good front and hind angulation and level topline, completed by a well set tail correctly carried, excellent mover without any exaggeration. 2 Chambers’ Ch Nosregor Bewitched For Musique. Quality chocolate balanced throughout, full of life, well presented in good coat and condition, just preferred the ear carriage and movement of the winner. 3 Beard’s Ir Ch Wyndlee Finlandia At Beaulion. Lovely black with good pigmentation, nice in outline, tended to stand a little wide in front when not concentrating, moved well round the ring.

Good Citizen B (3, 1) 1 Pooley’s Wyndlee Fallen Angel From Azkaban. Second in veteran. 2 Bray’s Abbicher Lily Langtree. Black, unplaced in PG. Completely out of coat today, nice shape with good head pattern, nice bone for size.
