German Spitz Mittel
I had great difficulty in measuring the dogs, the correct place to measure is the top of the withers, but many dogs had such upright shoulders that the withers were under the neck. This forward placed shoulder coupled with a short steep upper arm results in the movement faults that were common. Hind angulation was good, so you get dogs with lovely drive behind trying to compensate for a front that cannot cope. The Standard calls for ‘moderate’ angulation which simply means ‘medium’, so if breeders try to breed for greater front angulation so that the layback of shoulder brings the withers out from under the neck many movement faults will disappear. Having said that I found many dogs that I liked.
PD (5) 1 Clayton’s Rossfort Gerhardt, beautiful wedge head, excellent mouth & dentition, well angulated rear with adequate shoulder giving free movement, super bone & tight feet, strong pigmentation. Slightly round eye & needs ring presence to achieve his potential. BP; 2 Winser’s Nixtev Notorious, lovely black fuzzy baby, good bone & feet, lovely tight ears, moved freely, very promising; 3 Hill’s Sobriety Hot Chocolate. JD (3) 1 Beard’s Wyndlee Huggy Bear, foxy tight little brown, small ears, well balanced head, compact & well ribbed, dense harsh coat. Slightly steep shoulder, looking immature; 2 Hewett’s Spellcast Secrets And Lies, larger cream, very attractive balanced head. A little short of spring of rib, round eye; 3 Clayton’s Studholme White Diamond. PGD (3,2a) 1 Mulholland’s Zephon Nebula Rubiestar, black, good dense coat, lovely ears, good head. Round eyes, forward placed shoulder. LD (7) 1 Corkin’s Nixtev Kinetic under Fouranfass, well balanced & attractive black, although on the smaller side he was well balanced & moved out well; 2 Hill’s Wyndlee Yin of Sobriety, very attractive coat & beautifully marked, lovely head, excellent mouth. Steep shoulder restricting his forward reach; 3 Thurston’s Rossfort Caractacus from Liubice. OD (5,1) 1 Beard’s Ch/Ir Ch Wyndlee Chandera Spectre, super orange with excellent harsh coat, lovely masculine head & expression. Forgave him his winter nose pigment. Excellent dentition, beautiful strong bone & feet, moved out really well. CC; 2 Chambers’ Ch Druitz Corncracker for Teamspitz, glamorous cream, out of coat & lacking texture. Lovely head & ears, good bone. Would love to see him in form. RCC; 3 Duke & Gardner’s Daraydala Secret Squirrel. VD (2) 1 Day’s Loki’s Gold Ingot, glamorous gold with lovely coat and beautifully presented, good mouth & teeth; 2 Roberts’ Nosregor Black Blade at Veratina, nice black dog, moved out well. Let down by dirty teeth & coat.
PB (6,2) 1 Duke & Gardner’s Galvizach Wilma Flintstone, 7 months cream, beautifully balanced, gorgeous baby coat, well presented. Needs to tighten up all through but very promising; 2 Hill’s Wyndlee Sad Cafe of Soriety, pretty b/w, lovely head & ears. Narrow in front with forward placed shoulders which restricted her movement, hopefully will improve with maturity; 3 Beard’s Sobriety Fifth Element. JB (2) 1 Clayton’s Studholme Diamond Fire, smart & sassy black of lovely type, well made all through. Slightly forward placed shoulder but she did move out well & really took my eye; 2 Cleworth’s Kasshyk Midnight Flyer, larger cr/w, lovely tailset, well balanced. Would prefer more substance, this may improve with maturity. PGB (6,1) 1 Moir’s Nixtev Liberty at Jansanleis, glamorous cream, beautifully presented, excellent pigment, good dentition, pretty head although would prefer a stronger muzzle. Moved out well; 2 Day’s Desaria Lotte, very pretty head & expression, good mouth. Not as positive in movement; 3 Rolleston’s Beaulion Amethyst at Kelham. LB (2) 1 Heslop’s Runfold Joo Joo Bee Doo by Flamuna, pretty black girl, well balanced. Slightly round eye & steep in shoulder; 2 Garbutt’s Nixtev Lexis,-larger cream with beautiful coat. Steep in shoulder & was crabbing as she moved. OB (4,1) Two stunning bitches. 1 Chambers’ Ch Nosregor Bewitched for Musique, glamorous & cheeky brown who is gorgeous, what a beautiful Spitz head, so well balanced with beautiful ears & lovely dentition, her profile movement is super. Gave her handler a hard time but that just shows Spitz character. CC & BOB; 2 Ferguson’s Studholme Loveing Lass, really beautiful cream, compact & beautifully balanced, moved well although slightly steeper in shoulder than 1. RCC; 3 Thurston’s Rossfort Xanadu from Liubice. VB (1) 1 Pooley’s Wyndlee Fallen Angel from Azkaban, 8 years golden girl, good bone, well angulated rear, well presented & moved quite well. BV. Breeder Garbutt.
