Critique
German Spitz Mittel
Such an excellent entry, both in quantity & quality. Many dogs were not moving at their best & many seemed distracted. Temperaments in some were not true to the Standard which I feel is worrying as one of the engaging factors of the Spitz is their wonderful character & temperament. Hopefully breeders will be careful in selecting future breeding stock & take the necessary steps to ensure this undesirable trait does not continue. I was delighted to see my BOB shortlisted in the strong group.
PD (3) 1 Jones’ Flamuna Revelations at Runestone, sable, more mature out of the three, masculine head, good eye & expression, well used ears, well off for bone & substance, in full coat of correct texture, showed well; 2 Williams’ Druitz The Student Prince, black, good head, eye & ear placement giving pleasing expression, good bone & substance, moved steadily. Just needs more coat to complete the picture; 3 Orchard’s Spilmah Grouville. JD (1) 1 Garbutt’s Nixtev Polarize, white with jet black pigment, extrovert character who gave his handler a hard time on the move. Good wedge head & expression, presented pleasing outline when standing, firm, strong body with excellent high set tail.PGD (6) 1 Chambers & Highmoor’s Druitz Hufenia, cream, adequate bone & substance, masculine head with dark eye & well used ears, jet black pigment, good front, firm body. Just needs coat & maturity to complete the picture; 2 Heslop’s Flamuna Franz Ferdinand, black, pleasing for type, presented square outline, correct bite, eye & ear placement. Not as positive on the move as 1. Showed well; 3 Drechsler’s Wydnlee Blowin In The Wind at Jeansway. LD (3) 1 Alfred’s Libubice Just William, white with blackest of pigment, good bite, dark eye, well used ears, brisk mover, beautifully presented in full coat, at one with handler; 2 Chambers’ Uncas von Zwegen Koing, thought this lad would be my winner as he entered the ring but he wasn’t happy & this was reflected both standing & the move. Masculine brown with excellent bone & substance, firm, compact, body with good muscletone, neat, well used ears, beautifully presented in full coat of correct texture; 3 Winser’s Nixtev Notorious of Lysebourne. OD (5) 1 Hewett’s Ch Spellcast Talk To Me, showy, mature, masculine black, compact, firm body, excellent muscletone, presented a square & balanced outline, well off for bone & substance, good wedge head & keen expression with correct dark eye, neat well used ears. Not in full coat but correct texture & beautifully presented. CC & BOB, delighted to see him shortlisted in the strong group; 2 Williams’ Druitz Black Prince, well constructed black, square outline, masculine wedge head with good eye & ear giving pleasing expression, beautifully presented in full coat of correct texture, very attentive to handler, pushed 1 all the way. RCC; 3 Corkin’s Nixtev Kinetic under Fournfass.
PB (6) 1 Heslop’s Flamuna Skint And Minted, b/t, not the biggest but well constructed with ample bone & substance for size, firm, square, compact body, ultra feminine head with pleasing expression, well used ears, moved briskly & showed well, shone in the challenge to take RCC & BP; 2 Druitz Follow That Dream, not as settled as 1, good front, pleasing head, correct bite, sweet expression. Needs to settle on the move; 3 Winser’s Lysebourne Secret Affair. JB (5) 1 Orr’s Rossfort Andante with Sobriety, cream, attractive & showy, square outline, feminine head, dark eye, black pigment enhancing expression, firm body with adequate bone & substance, moved well, attentive to handler; 2 Richardson’s Wyndlee Lawdy Miss Clawdy at Jomihvar, delightful, exuberant, outgoing character, pale gold, well used ears, eye & pigment colour acceptable but would prefer darker. Firm body, well muscled, good high set tail. Needs to settle on move; 3 Alfred’s Rossfort Black Girl at Teamor. PGB (1) 1 Studholme’s Diamond Fire, black, enough bone & substance, pleasing head & expression, well used ears. Not in full coat but what she had was of the correct texture, steady mover, showed well. LB (4) 1 Beard’s Flamuna Oasis, difficult to assess as very full of herself both on the table & on the move, totally out of coat. Feminine head & expression, would prefer darker pigment, good bite, neat, well used ears, good body & high set tail; 2 Hall’s Spilmah Affair To B at Pufnstuf, attractively marked b/w parti, beautifully presented in full coat, good bite, neat, well used ears, attentive to handler. Preferred front of 1. OB (9) 1 Chambers’ Ch Nosregor Bewitched for Musique, ultimate showgirl from the moment she entered the ring, well constructed brown, presented square, balanced outline, excellent bone & substance, feminine head & expression, good eye, neat ears, well muscled, with excellent high set tail & neat feet. CC; 2 Beard’s Ch Danancks Winnie The Witch, brown, lively character, good head with correct eye & ear giving pleasing expression, enough bone & substance, very animated on the move, showed well; 3 Orchard’s Ch Pennypot Enchantress with Spilmah, completed a line-up of worthy ch.
